The 100: Day 21 Review

Since I finished reading The 100 by Kass Morgan I've managed to convince quite a few teens at the library to read it, and they've all loved it. We've ordered the sequel to satiate their thirst, but since it hasn't come in yet, I was able to come across an e-book copy through NetGalley, and now all of the teens are jealous of me :) And for good reason. Without further ado, I'll just right into my review of The 100: Day 21.

The 100: Day 21 Summary:
No one has set foot on Earth in centuries -- until now.
Day 21 (The Hundred, #2)It's been 21 days since the hundred landed on Earth. They're the only humans to set foot on the planet in centuries...or so they thought. Facing an unknown enemy, Wells attempts to keep the group together. Clarke strikes out for Mount Weather, in search of other Colonists, while Bellamy is determined to rescue his sister, no matter the cost. And back on the ship, Glass faces an unthinkable choice between the love of her life and life itself.
In this pulse-pounding sequel to Kass Morgan's The 100, secrets are revealed, beliefs are challenged, and relationships are tested. And the hundred will struggle to survive the only way they can -- together.

The 100: Day 21 Review:
The first installment ended on a cliffhanger, so I was all too eager to pick up the second book and continue where the author left off with The 100 discovering that they're not the only people on Earth, and with those on the space station realizing that the ship is running out of oxygen. (And Wells is to thank for that.) This sequel picks up right where it left off, and continues with Clarke and Bellamy trying to find Bellamy's sister, Olivia, who has been captured by the natives (for lack of a better word), who have been living on Earth since the Cataclysm.

Because Clarke is soon injured after having a romantic tryst with Bellamy, he carries her back to camp, where she recovers, and ultimately continues to fulfill her role as the camp doctor and ultimately spends more time with Wells, her ex. I have to give the author props. The whole time I was thinking she was going to end up forgiving Wells, and the two of them were going to get back together, because they seemed to be that kind of couple that readers swoon over. And she does learn to forgive him, but Kass does a great job of changing the reader's mind (or at least this reader). Clarke and Bellamy feel right now. And I agree with her decision to keep Clarke and Wells broken up, at least for the time being.

And then there's Glass...my favorite character of the series. She went through so much in the first book, but ended up sneaking back into the poor sector of the ship to be with Luke. This sector is also coincidentally the sector that has been cut off from the rest of the ship, and all of its residents are being left to die with a limited supply of oxygen. And of course, Glass is struggling with the secret she's keeping from Luke. I'll try not to give too much away, but once again Glass's story was my favorite. She and Luke have to fight to survive on the dying ship, but will their love persevere?

The book ends on another cliffhanger, with the ship being rendered uninhabitable due to an oxygen depletion. So of course, a couple hundred of the luckiest residents are barely able to make it onto the dropship that's headed straight for Earth. I'm excited to see how The 100 continue to live on Earth with the adults now there too. And I'm excited to have Glass continue her story on Earth. All in all, I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. And if you haven't picked up this series yet...what are you waiting for?
